We’re three Santa Barbara-based journalists who are passionate about media literacy.
Amy Marie Orozco
is a writer and editor whose work appears in national magazines. Honored as AWC chapter Member of the Year in 2021, she offers editorial, digital, marketing, and creative services to print and online publications, social media influencers, government agencies, entrepreneurs, nonprofits, and public relations firms.
Amy also volunteers with Catalyst for Cats, and sits on the Carpinteria Valley Historical Society board of trustees.
Lisa Osborn
is an award-winning newscaster, producer, and voice-over talent. As news and public affairs director at KCSB-FM, the radio station at UC Santa Barbara, Lisa coaches, mentors and presents workshops to students and community members on various aspects of journalism, audio production and news writing.
She and her partner have a YouTube travel video channel (@SBScenic)
Starshine Roshell
is an award-winning journalist, producer and educator. She was a reporter for over a decade at the Santa Barbara News-Press, where she helped lead the reporters’ walkout over the publisher’s failed journalistic ethics. She taught journalism at UCSB and SBCC, and now produces educational content for LinkedIn. Starshine is a national Association for Women in Communications’ Headliner Award recipient, and volunteers with the News Literacy Project.
We received funding from the AWC Advancement Fund to offer free trainings to empower curious citizens of all ages to use critical thinking and journalistic fact-checking tools.
The fiscal sponsorship of the Santa Barbara Foundation also made this project possible.
